Day 2 report and results – 2024 Dutch Sailing Nationals

Latest News

The 2024 Dutch Sailing National Championships continued in Medemblik today with a successful second day of competition, highlighted by warm, sunny weather.

The on-water action kicked off at 10:25 with the first warning signals. Wind conditions were lighter than yesterday, ranging from 5 to 7 knots throughout the day.

In the ILCA 4 it’s Amber Knape NED who heads now the fleet with 9 points, followed by the overnight leader Thomas Cantillon BEL with 12. Dirk Louwrier NED is third overall with 20 units.

The ILCA 6 fleet saw a shake-up at the top, with Floris Schraffordt NED taking the lead, closely trailed by Alexander Hartsink NED and Jania Ang SGP. Former leader Audrius Moliakov NED has dropped to fourth.

Anders Bultynck BEL now heads the ILCA 7 championship with 6 points, followed by Willem Wiersema NED and Hidde Schraffordt NED, both with 10 points.

In the Finn class, David Terol ESP has taken the lead, with Nanno Schuttrups NED and Jelte Baerends NED in second and third, respectively.

Hungarians Roni Oszkár Szabó and Oliver HUN continue to dominate the 49ers competition.

Vera tea Horst and Jorien Hin NED managed to secure the first place today among the 49er FXs.

“We had a pretty good day today. We sealed 3 first places and 1 second place. We started with little more of breeze and then it died down. What we were happy with is that we were remaining patients during the race. I think the wind speed will be lighter tomorrow so patience is a big role for us. I think that’s the main thing and just keeping your speed in boats”, said Vera and Jorien.

The 29ers championship is now led by Jeroen Dieperink & Thijs Bijleveld NED with 9 points, followed by overnight leaders Folkert van Surksum & Lars Ganzevles NED with 19.

“Yesterday we were first and today we had a really bad day so we dropped some places. The conditions were okay, it was really choppy and a lot of light wind, so it was really difficult to get up to speed and to make a difference. We hope we can make up for it tomorrow and to win. It’s gonna be really difficult”, declared Folkert and Lars.

Belgian teams are dominating the Nacra 15 fleet, with Hannelien and Sander Borghijs BEL leading the standings with 8 points.

The final races are set for tomorrow, so stay tuned! The first warning signals are scheduled for 10:25.

A total of 261 sailors from 8 different classes, representing 15 nations, are competing in the regatta.

The event is organised by Royal Yacht Club Hollandia and kindly sponsored by Team Medemblik and Provincie Noord-Holland.
